Questions

Based on your search question, prepare to conduct (or repeat a previous) literature review by accessing relevant literature databases via the UTS Library website http://find.lib.uts.edu.au/Links to an external site. or another portal such as PubMed.  

  1. Critique the methods of your selected studies:

Complete the following regarding critique of the methods of your selected studies.

  • What collectively were the strengths and/or limitations of the methods?
  • How does this critique inform your proposed methods?
  • What were the key issues identified from your critique of the literature (also record the related reference/s that support each issue).

   2. Synthesis of your selected study findings:

Note the important messages below regarding synthesis of your selected studies’ findings.

  • What is known? (note the reference/s which support the stated claims)
  • What is not known? (note the reference/s which support the stated claims)
  • What were the Key findings from your synthesis of the literature (record the reference/s supporting each key finding).

  3. Construct a draft narrative of your 'background':

Using the key statements above to form ‘topic’ sentences, in a few paragraphs construct a draft narrative of the ‘background’ (literature review) for your proposal (about 500 words for Assessment 1); highlight the key messages – what is known and what remains unknown about this topic - and in what order these issues / points should be presented (flow of concepts / development of a coherent argument).
