5 Research Design Types + Key Elements and Characteristics

  1.  What type of study question is yours? Is this reflected in your statement?

What is / are the relationships among these?

  • Some conceptual or theoretical base

My question aims to determine the most effective nursing practices that could reduce the incidence of ICU delirium.

2. Do you need to revise your study aim? Probably yes

Write your ‘present working’ draft of your study aim / research question.

As I mentioned above, I aim to show what nursing practices are more effective and efficient for patients diagnosed with delirium during their hospitalisation in the intensive care unit.

3. What broad design/s are options? What is your study aim seeking to address? What are the outcomes or concepts of interest?

My study design:  Correlational / Comparative.

As my PICO question is comparative/ correlational design, the experimental study and randomized controlled trial (RCT) are the best options for my question.

--------------------------

  1. What is your selected study design? Quantitative - the experimental study & RCT
  2. Are there alternative designs that could also address your study objective / question?

    Systematic review, meta-analysis

  3. Consider your rationale for making a final design selection; what is your justification?

My research proposal focuses on testing theories ( best nursing practices to reduce the incidence of aa disease), not exploring phenomena that could be achieved through the qualitative methodology.
